Hi, I'm Alex 👋

I’m a Designer and Product Manager at Coherent

About Me

I graduated from the University of Bath in 2015 with a degree in International Management and German. I joined Coherent in 2016 as a business development manager, and employee #1. I’m now a Product Manager & Designer, leading a team of developers

Day-to-day I research and plan new features based on insights collected from our customer success team, direct contact with existing customers and demos with new ones. I produce low and high fidelity mockups and if appropriate, review them with our development team before creating a full feature scope. I manage the workload of all of our developers and QA all work before it is deployed

I accidentally grew into my role as a Designer; I’d never had any design training or done any design work, but as the requirements of our team evolved, I had to fill the gap.

Outside of work I like to workout, boulder occasionally and enjoy cooking vegan food. I play a fair amount of Xbox, build a lot of Lego and collect houseplants 🪴

Work

Being part of the Coherent team since the product was in beta, I’ve been directly involved with every piece of product development; I’ve researched, designed, scoped and tested almost every feature and bug fix we’ve ever released.

I’ve interviewed and onboarded several developers and business development roles, conducted product demos in English and German, represented the company at Google’s Campus Exchange: Best of British and run a crowdfunding campaign that raised over £120k

Below are some of my most recent pieces of work. And here’s my tech stack - hardware and software I use day-to-day
